First steps in the Library

Library Programs at the start of the AY

We’re offering a variety of library programs during the first two weeks of the academic year. Come get to know the library—you’ll need it during your studies. There will be several library Orientation tours, the Knowledge Triathlon, an online escape room, and the opportunity to meet us in the Gellért Building. See the details below.

WelcomeWeek (31 Aug – 3 Sept)

Orientation tours

From Monday to Thursday, we’ll offer Orientation tours twice in the morning. During these short (approx. 15–20-minute) tours, we’ll explore the library’s reading rooms, cover the basics of library usage, and you can pick up your library card, which is necessary for future visits.

Tours start in English:

Mo-Thu: 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m.

If you’d like to participate in any of these, come to the Library Information Desk at the scheduled times: Building C, 1st floor.

Gellért Building (31 August – 3 Sept.)

Although we can’t move the Library to the Gellért Building, you can meet with us among the other university units. We’ll be waiting for you with a variety of online and offline games and quizzes, e.g. with this funny library quiz. Hope to see you there.

Orientation Tours

Following the same theme as last week, we’ll be hosting orientation tours at the following times:

10 Sept, 10:00 a.m

Knowledge Triathlon (7 & 9 September)

During the second week of September, we’ll be holding two funny, interactive, approximately 90-min sessions, consisting of 3 modules on the following topics:

Essentials of scholarly literature and references
Can’t do it without AI? – A guide to the ethical use of AI.
Beyond the tabloid, or the basics of academic writing

Date and time:

7 Sept, 2:00–3:30 p.m.

9 Sept, 10:00–11:30 a.m.

Max. number of participants: 30 students/session

Escape Room (7-10 Sept)

Explore the library’s spaces with our escape room game. You can play individually or in groups. All you need is your smartphone, puzzle-solving skills, and cheerfulness. The game lasts about 35–40 minutes and starts by scanning the QR code located at the library entrance. Have fun!

Did you miss the Orientation tours? Not sure where to find what you’re looking for? Request an on-demand tour using the form. The requested and accepted time slot will be announced, so others can join as well.

Why is the Library useful?

In the library, you’ll find the reliable academic resources you need to write a high-level paper.
Scholarly literature is available in electronic format as well as in printed form.
The library offers a quiet and comfortable environment for focused and efficient study.
The consultation rooms and the Co-Lab are great locations for common study and project work. Consultation rooms are bookable online.
You can relax together with your friends in the community areas.

Where can you find the Library?

The Library is in Building C, 1^st floor. Before your visit, check its opening hours.
There is no Library in the Gellért Building, just a Study area.
The Library’s website from the University’s webpage is accessible under Research.

How to use the library?

Pick up your free Library Card to visit the library, to borrow books, and for other services.
To access available E-books, E-journals, and databases remotely, install the VPN client or use EduID (limited to some databases).
Search for printed books in the OPAC, or search for topics in SuperSearch.
To borrow a book, follow these steps:
- Check its location in the OPAC (e.g. Business Economics reading room) and its shelf sign (e.g. 40, D 50).
- Books marked with a white label (together with yellow or green labels are also fine) are for loan. Yellow stripes in themselves mean that the book is unborrowable, can be used only on-site.
- Use the self-service check-in/out machines at the Library Information Desk. By default, your PIN code is your date of birth (mmdd – e.g., 0321). If you want to change it, log in to the catalogue using your library card and Neptun ID, written in CAPITAL LETTERS.
- Check loan rules here.
To return a book, you have several options:
- Check it in, using the self-service machine in the library. No PIN-code is necessary.
- If you are in a hurry, drop the book in the small Book Return Box outside of Building C, left from the entrance. The book will be taken off from your account immediately, and the librarians will return it to its space.
