The Doctoral Student Union (DSU) is the official representative organization for doctoral students at Corvinus University of Budapest, responsible for representing the institutional interests of students participating in doctoral programs at the University. DSU, as part of the University, operates independently in accordance with the Act CCIV. of 2011 on National Higher Education (hereinafter referred as Nftv.), the applicable legislation and the relevant regulations of the University (hereinafter collectively referred to as regulatory documents). The position of the DSU is determined exclusively by the interests of the doctoral students.
Pursuant to the Nftv. and in accordance with the relevant regulatory documents, the DSU may
express its opinion, and may make proposals in connection with any issues related to the operation of the University and the doctoral students. On the basis of the Nftv, the DSU participates in the evaluation of the work of the lecturers of the doctoral programmes of the University. In addition to the tasks and powers specified in this section, the DSU may carry out any scientific, professional, cultural or other activities that support the objectives defined in these Statutes and serve the interests of doctoral students, as long as they are in accordance with the regulatory documents.
In which bodies are we present?
Within the framework defined in the relevant regulatory documents, in order to exercise its duties and powers, the DSU participates in the work of the decision-making and advisory bodies of the University where the preparation and ratification of decisions related to the operation of the University and to the doctoral students are adopted.

We strive to gather the opinions and needs of students through surveys, and individuals can also turn to representatives if the flow of university life requires it. We aim to channel as many opinions as possible into the decision-making processes of the university. Therefore, our representative organization is dedicated to assisting the successful academic journey and well-being of students. We proactively address potential issues, whether individual or group-related, and facilitate proper communication and information flow between decision-makers, instructors, and doctoral students.
The Assembly of Delegates consists of representatives elected from each Doctoral School and the president, following the provisions of the DSU’s Statute.

The Presidency serves as the working body of DSU. The members include the president and the vice-presidents. The vice-presidents are appointed and dismissed by the president. The president coordinates the professional work of DSU, leading and directing the Presidency in the process.

The Supervisory Board (SB) consists of 3 members, overseeing the operation and finances of DSU. Any member of the ‘SB’ is entitled to access any official documents of DSU, request information, and address questions to the president of DSU. The Boards have 4 members each, including 1 university delegate and 3 DSU members. The operation of the Boards is entirely independent of DSU in legal terms. Moreover, anyone serving on the Boards is fully responsible for their work in accordance with the Board regulations.

We strive to compile scholarship opportunities for doctoral students that can be applied for during their doctoral studies. The DSU is responsible for announcing public affairs and social scholarships, and detailed information can be found on this page. The Public Affairs Scholarship is a financial incentive supporting outstanding university public affairs activities or significant cultural achievements of doctoral students. This scholarship can be applied for every month during the semester. Such activities may include but are not limited to, organizing or participating in university events (conferences, lectures, receptions, camps, and other student events), as well as working on projects led or supervised by a university organizational unit (e.g., skill development, “internal world” project). Activities enhancing the reputation of the university include successful sports competitions, work on projects led or supervised by a university organizational unit, etc.
Applications and attachments for the scholarship can be submitted through the Neptun system, under the “Administration/Requests/Fillable Requests” menu, using the request titled “Public Affairs Scholarship I. for Doctoral Students…”. Application periods for the 2025/2026 II. semester (planned):
The Extraordinary Social Grant is a one-time financial benefit provided based on extraordinary events in the student’s social situation. The scholarship is accessible through a public application, announced by the Dean of Corvinus Doctoral Schools with the consent of DSU. The scholarship is available to active students with full-time (daytime) PhD studies, but an application can only be submitted once during the academic year.
Students can apply in writing for the scholarship at any time of the year if an extraordinary event has occurred in their social situation or their family’s social situation. The scholarship has three categories (mild, moderate, severe) based on the extraordinary event, and more details can be found in the current year’s application call by clicking here.

The Regular Social Grant aims to financially support doctoral students in full-time programs based on their social situation. This scholarship covers one semester, and it can be applied for at the beginning of both the autumn and spring semesters. As the name suggests, this is a regular scholarship, meaning the amount awarded to the doctoral student is disbursed monthly for 5 months/semester.
Students receive a score based on their social situation, taking into account living conditions, family status, medication costs, monthly net income per capita, etc. The data provided in the social application must be verified with official documents.
