MNB Doctoral Excellence Scholarship
MNB offers scholarship programmes to students attending certain (undergraduate, master’s, single cycle or PhD) programmes in economics delivered at BCE by MNB or in collaboration with MNB, to help them complete their studies in Hungary. The framework for, and conditions of, scholarship programmes are defined jointly by MNB and BCE and financed by MNB.
Who may apply and what is the process of applying?
- Students of the General and Quantitative Economics doctoral track at the Doctoral School of Economics and Business Informatics. Up to two students may receive scholarships at a time.
- Under calls for applications, through Neptun.
- Applications will be evaluated by the MNB-BCE Steering Committee.
Frequency of announcing calls for applications and amount of funds to be awarded
- Each semester (autumn and spring semesters)
- HUF 30,000/month, over a period of five months
- Under the call announced most recently, the total available funding for scholarships was HUF 300,000. The current scholarship amount may differ from this and is always included in the current call for applications.
MNB Scholarship for Tuition-paying Students in Doctoral Programmes
MNB offers scholarship programmes to students attending certain (undergraduate, master’s, single cycle or PhD) programmes in economics delivered at BCE by MNB or in collaboration with MNB, to help them complete their studies in Hungary. The framework for, and conditions of, scholarship programmes are defined jointly by MNB and BCE and financed by MNB.
Who may apply and what is the process of applying?
- Self-funded students admitted to the General and Quantitative Economics doctoral track at the Doctoral School of Economics and Business Informatics in the given academic year. Up to two students may receive scholarships at a time.
- Under calls for applications, through Neptun.
- Applications will be evaluated by the MNB-BCE Steering Committee.

- At the beginning of each academic year
- Amount of tuition fees for the study programme.

- Under calls for applications, through Neptun.
- Applications will be evaluated by the MNB-BCE Steering Committee.

MNB Scholarship for Students Reclassified from State-funded Status to Tuition-paying Status
MNB offers scholarship programmes to students attending certain (undergraduate, master’s, single cycle or PhD) programmes in economics delivered at BCE by MNB or in collaboration with MNB, to help them complete their studies in Hungary. The framework for, and conditions of, scholarship programmes are defined jointly by MNB and BCE and financed by MNB.
Who may apply and what is the process of applying?
- Any student attending one of the study programmes specified in a call for applications, if reclassified from state scholarship form of funding to tuition-paying form of funding (Á to K) (due to having used all available state-funded semesters).
- Under calls for applications, through Neptun.
- Applications will be evaluated by the MNB-BCE Steering Committee.

MNB Economic Analysis Scholarship
MNB offers scholarship programmes to students attending certain (undergraduate, master’s, single cycle or PhD) programmes in economics delivered at BCE by MNB or in collaboration with MNB, to help them complete their studies in Hungary. The framework for, and conditions of, scholarship programmes are defined jointly by MNB and BCE and financed by MNB.
Who may apply and what is the process of applying?
- Students with an active student status pursuing a full-time master’s degree in Economic Analysis delivered in Hungarian language, receiving state scholarships or self-funding their studies.
- Under calls for applications, through Neptun.
- Applications will be evaluated by a committee with five members: the committee is chaired by the Vice-Rector for Education and its members include the Dean of Graduate Programmes, the Head of the MNB Institute, the Programme Leader of the Master’s Programme in Economic Analysis, and one individual delegated by MNB.
Frequency of announcing calls for applications and amount of funds to be awarded
- Each semester (autumn and spring semesters).
- An amount of funds corresponding to a score calculated on the basis of academic achievement and scientific activities; awarded in tiers of HUF 5000, ranging from a minimum of HUF 20,000/month to a maximum of HUF 50,000/month; and disbursed over a period of five months.

Magyar Nemzeti Bank considers it its priority task to help develop and to support expertise in economics and economic science. To achieve this goal, it facilitates economic and financial research as well as professional training within the framework provided by law.
Who may apply and what is the process of applying?
Full-time students with active student status, regardless of nationality; under calls for applications; through Neptun. Applications will be evaluated by the MNB-BCE Steering Committee.
