Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research

About the Center

The Regional Centre for Energy Policy Research (REKK) is an independent research institution dedicated to the fields of energy, water, and environmental economics. With a mission to foster economically efficient and environmentally sustainable market operations, REKK provides high-quality research, consultancy, and knowledge dissemination services. Its vision is to shape regulatory frameworks and corporate strategies at both national and international levels, thereby contributing to well-functioning and future-proof energy and environmental sectors. REKK’s primary goal is to support evidence-based policy-making and business decision-making through rigorous, policy-relevant analysis grounded in economic theory and empirical research.

Over the past two decades, REKK has conducted extensive research and consultancy work in a wide range of areas. These include electricity and natural gas markets—particularly in relation to network regulation and large consumer interests—along with the district heating sector, where research focuses on service regulation and corporate strategy. In the field of water economics, REKK addresses issues such as utility management, catchment area governance, and flood risk management. The centre also examines renewable energy deployment, its economic impacts, and long-term policy support, while its work on decarbonisation includes emissions trading systems and national energy and climate planning. Additionally, REKK engages in research on transport, energy use in SMEs, and building energy efficiency, reflecting its broad commitment to sustainable development across interconnected sectors.
