Assistant Professor in Philosophy – AÉB/3/2026

The Institute of Social and Political Sciences announces an open call for applications for a 3-year Assistant Professor position (with the possibility of extension).

The starting date is autumn semester 2026.

Job description and key duties:

Corvinus University of Budapest invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Philosophy, beginning in Autumn 2026. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) programme, advise students, supervise student research, conduct and publish original research, and contribute to curriculum development.

We seek a colleague who is enthusiastic about working collaboratively with the philosophy faculty of the PPE programme, particularly in the fields of history and philosophy of science, with a strong emphasis on economics and the social sciences, early modern philosophy, philosophy of mind and philosophy of psychology. The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong record of research and teaching, commensurate with their career stage. Applicants must hold a PhD in Philosophy.

Area of Specialization: Open (with particular attention to the fields of expected cooperation listed above).

Area of Competence: Logic, epistemology, metaphysics. The ability to teach an introductory course in symbolic logic is essential.

The appointee is expected to conduct high-quality research and publish in leading international journals and with reputable academic book publishers; to organise and seek external funding for research projects; and to engage in internal and external academic service as appropriate.

The starting date of the position is 1 September 2026.
The appointment is fixed-term for three years, with the possibility of extension.

While those at an early stage of their career are welcome to apply, they must be in a possession of a completed Phd at the point of appointment.

Essential qualifications and experience:

  • PhD in Philosophy
  • Teaching experience in philosophy subjects
  • English language proficiency
  • Evidence of research excellence (publications, grants, awards)
  • The candidate must meet the job requirements set out in the Corvinus Academic Career Model.

Desirable criteria:

  • Documented evidence of teaching excellence (e.g. student evaluations and/or evaluations by direct supervisors)
  • International teaching experience
  • Experience in international research projects, including ongoing research, publications under review, or research proposals in preparation
  • Experience in the organisation and management of research projects
  • Active participation in domestic and international academic conferences
  • A strong and sustained publication record
  • PhD degree obtained from a university with a strong international standing, as evidenced by global rankings (e.g. ARWU)
  • At least three years of teaching and research experience in higher education, or a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience

  • Cover letter, including a presentation of future academic plans (education, teaching development, and research)
  • Curriculum Vitae including a detailed presentation of teaching, research and service activities and results
  • Summary table of achievements (Please complete the Summary Excel table for assistant professor applications)
  • Names and contact details of three professional referees, all of whom should be established scholars in the field
  • A sample paper / book chapter
  • Scanned copies of documents certifying academic degrees and qualifications, including the PhD degree and any other relevant professional qualifications (In the case of scientific degrees obtained abroad, nostrification will be processed by the University.)
