The Gellért Green high school education program has launched

Two successful events have already been held in May.
Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem

Visibility and connection—these two values define the program that started in January 2026 at the Gellért Campus, with several department staff members joining the initiative, as the experience can also be seen as a “gateway” to recruitment.

Introducing the building, which has won sustainability awards through a co-design process, is an important goal, as this value can provide space not only for the University but also for the wider community to organize both professional and cultural events.

In this way, the building “opens its doors” to local communities as well as nearby university stakeholders, who, after getting to know the space, can connect to the location either as tenants or as participants in programs held there.

On the morning of May 18, CIAS visiting professor Piergiuseppe Morone and his students held a full-morning workshop for high school students, with the assistance of our PhD student Lukács Hayes as organizer.

On Friday, May 22, Zsófia Nemes, assistant professor at Corvinus FFI, Department of Sustainability Management, gave a lecture to students of the Széchenyi István High School in Újbuda, with the participation of their natural science teacher, Terézia Pálosné Ferber.

The building and its garden provide an opportunity for instructors of the university’s sustainability-related courses to engage with high school students, who are brought to the campus by their science teachers. Here, our instructors deliver lectures or workshops linked to the high school curriculum. The sessions are conducted in both Hungarian and English.

Several high schools have responded positively to the initiative, and the program will continue in the autumn. With the development of a garden nature trail, further opportunities will arise for creative science classes.

This project helps introduce the university in two ways: through high-quality academic content and through an inspiring, attractive environment that conveys a clear message—sustainability is a consciously embraced value both in education and in the learning environment.
