Research: North-eastern Europe may become the granary of our continent

30/05/2022
According to the joint study carried out in the cooperation of Corvinus, ELTE (Eötvös Loránd University) and BME (Budapest University of Technology and Economics), it is presently North-eastern Europe where European grain production grows most dynamically. The cereals of the northern region have a relatively low sensitivity to climatic changes, and the previously relatively underdeveloped economies of the region are able to grow fast. The analysis also points out that the consumption and production system of this region is based on foundations of thousands of years, and the operation of this system is now threatened by the regional wars. The study was published in the Scientific Reports journal of the Nature Portfolio on 5 May.
