  • Budapest Science Diplomacy School is an international, English-language summer school, bringing together students, young professionals and early-career researchers, as well as senior experts and lecturers from Hungary, Central and Eastern Europe, Western Balkan countries, and from the whole continent.
  • Budapest Science Diplomacy School is organized with the aim of advancing education and practical applications in science diplomacy, such as science diplomacy in an era of disruption, the European science diplomacy framework, innovation policy and diplomacy, media and science diplomacy, and many more.
  • Budapest Science Diplomacy School facilitates knowledge transfer between European stakeholders and strengthens research and education collaborations across the continent, while fostering synergies among scientific, diplomatic, and policy communities to address global challenges.

Programme

Learning Activities

The Budapest Science Diplomacy School offers a balanced, three- and half-day long study program consisting of different modules dealing with the theoretical and practical applications of science diplomacy. Each module consists of lectures and interactive seminars, and discussions led by top experts in the field. After the completion of the study program, the participants will receive a certificate. 

The official program starts on 23 June (Monday) afternoon with an opening seminar and a roundtable discussion about science diplomacy, followed by a welcome networking dinner. 

On 24 and 25 June (Tuesday and Wednesday), participants will take part in different modules covering different aspects and practical issues of science diplomacy. On these two days, each day consists of four 90-minute time slots, with coffee breaks and lunch breaks in between. 

On 26 June (Thursday), participants will visit the headquarters of the European Institute of Technology (EIT) in Budapest, where they will also learn about the European science diplomacy landscape.

Budapest Science Diplomacy Conference

Participants of the Budapest Science Diplomacy School are invited to participate the Budapest Science Diplomacy Conference to be held on Friday, 27 June 2025.

Social and Leisure Activities

In addition to the welcome networking dinner and the visit to the European Institute of Technology (EIT), where you can meet and network with experts from Europe’s leading institutes for science diplomacy, technology and innovation, we also organize an optional guided sightseeing tour for those, who want to discover the beauties of Budapest. As the activities usually finish at 5pm (except on Monday), we can organize additional social and leisure activities according to the needs of the participants to help you enjoy your time with us.

Participation is competitive-based, so please send help us get to know you, and attach your CV and a short Motivation Letter to your application.  

Participation in the Budapest Science Diplomacy School is free of charge. Participants will receive free tuition, free catering (typically one lunch and two coffee breaks per day), free participation at all the programs, such as study visits, sightseeing tour, one networking dinner and free access to the relevant study materials and presentations. 

If your current residence is outside of Budapest, and I apply for travel and accommodation support, which will mean that you travel costs (flight, train or bus), as well as your stay in a standard 3-star hotel room will be financially supported by the organizers.

Your CV should not be longer than 2 pages, please list your work experience and your educational background, including main qualifications. Please upload your CV in pdf. Alternatively, if you LinkedIn profile is detailed enough, just share the link of your profile with us, in which case you don’t need to submit a CV. 

Your Motivation Letter should not be longer than 1 page, composed of 3-5 paragraphs. In your letter, please explain why you are interested in the topic of science diplomacy, and what do you expect from your participation in the Budapest Science Diplomacy School. You can either upload your Motivation Letter in pdf, or copy/type the text to the input box in the application form.
