Why a Google Leader Chose a Corvinus EMBA to Broaden His Perspective

After nearly a decade at Google, Ulises Ludevig chose to complement his global strategy experience with an Executive MBA at Corvinus University of Budapest. After completing his first semester, he shared with us how the program broadens his perspective and supports his leadership ambitions.

Could you describe your professional background and recent role at Google?

Ulises Ludevig: I’m a global product strategy lead for Web Products at Google. I currently work at Google Ireland, and I have been with the company for close to 10 years in a variety of roles, from sales operations to market and product strategy. My role focuses on identifying revenue opportunities and translating them into product requirements and sales strategies, so we can respond to market needs in terms of product features, adoption, and growth opportunities.

Why did you decide to apply to the Executive MBA and why exactly in Hungary?

Ulises Ludevig: I chose the Executive MBA partly because of my connection to Hungary—my wife is Hungarian and a Corvinus alumna, and her positive experience gave me confidence in the program’s quality. I had been considering an MBA for a while, and this format fit my busy, travel-heavy schedule perfectly, with intensive monthly sessions instead of weekly classes. The double degree was also a strong draw, especially as I’m considering moving to Hungary in the medium term and building a network there.

Google has a very strong internal leadership development program. So why did you still decide to complete an external MBA?

Ulises Ludevig: Yes, we do have a very robust personal and business development program. We even have a year-long program called “Google MBA.” I completed one in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley in 2023, which covered some aspects of a traditional MBA. After that experience, I realized that after almost 10 years at a single company, there is always value in being exposed to a broader range of business challenges.

In your opinion, what are the strengths of the program?

Ulises Ludevig: The structure of the MBA allows topics to be highly concentrated, which is great for going in depth on a single subject. When preparing for a class, you can dedicate a significant amount of mental capacity to one area. At the same time, the diversity of the cohort means I learn from professionals across different industries. We have classmates from aviation, automotive, banking, oil, and insurance. The network is a particularly important aspect of an MBA, and there is a strong caliber of professionals from a wide range of fields.

How does the program shape your thinking about leadership?

Ulises Ludevig: I’d say it shapes my thinking about leadership in two main ways. On one hand, it strengthens my understanding of business fundamentals and gives me a broader perspective across functions, which helps me relate to different organizational challenges. On the other hand, the program is very intentional about personal leadership development—it encourages me to actively reflect on the kind of professional I want to become. Continuous feedback and peer discussions also help me navigate challenges and stay on track toward my leadership goals.

What are your professional plans after finishing the MBA program?

Ulises Ludevig: My long-term goal is to move into a general manager role and lead an organization. The MBA is helping me build the foundations for that by clarifying how I can leverage my strengths to grow in seniority and responsibility. What I find especially valuable is that it turns a long-term career vision into a concrete path, helping me actively take steps toward the leadership role I want in the future.

Why would you recommend applying to the MBA program to professionals who, like you, work at a multinational company with a strong internal leadership development system?

Ulises Ludevig: I’d say applying to an MBA is a very personal decision about the kind of professional you want to become and where you feel you need to grow. Even if you’re already in a strong corporate development program, the MBA adds real value in several ways. It broadens your perspective through a diverse cohort, helps you step back from your day-to-day role to better understand overall business fundamentals, and provides an external viewpoint on your challenges and growth. What I find especially powerful is how these two worlds reinforce each other—you bring insights from your company into the MBA, and then take new ideas and feedback back into your organization, creating a continuous development loop.
