“It Felt Like I Just Started Yesterday” – A Look at the Jubilee Graduation Ceremony

On October 11, Corvinus University welcomed back hundreds of alumni and their families for this year’s jubilee graduation ceremonies, honoring those who graduated 50, 60, 65, and 70 years ago.

For one memorable day, the Main Building’s Aula was filled with senior alumni, many of whom greeted long-lost classmates with joyful, tear-filled eyes. In two separate ceremonies, former students from Corvinus’ predecessor institutions received their jubilee diplomas.

The morning ceremony celebrated graduates with diamond, iron, and ruby-level diplomas. It also recognized golden diploma recipients who, due to the COVID-19 pandemic five years ago, were unable to receive their diplomas in person. The eldest alumni, who originally graduated in 1955, were awarded ruby-level diplomas this year. In the afternoon, graduates who completed their studies 50 years ago received golden diplomas, including several emeritus professors and former Rector Zsolt Rostoványi. Both ceremonies featured festive performances by the university choir.

In his speech, Vice-Rector Lajos Szabó highlighted the importance of connecting the past with the present. He noted that, just as the alumni were prepared for their changing world, today’s students must also be equipped to navigate constant global change. Szabó reflected on several of the university’s past rectors who played transformative roles in modernizing the institution and emphasized the leadership’s commitment to preserving its historic values and achievements—a commitment also symbolized in the university’s new HÍD strategy. Looking ahead, he stressed the importance of internationalization, aiming to elevate Corvinus from a national champion to a leading European university of economic sciences.

Both ceremonies concluded with a celebratory champagne toast in the lobby, where alumni continued to reconnect and share memories long after the formal program ended.
