Cleaning Robots at Corvinus Buildings

The new technology helps make cleaning more efficient in the C Building and at the Gellért Campus.
Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem

The university has recently introduced a pioneering cleaning technology, still rare in Hungary. The cleaning robots, which you may have already seen in the corridors and in one of the lifts, significantly improve cleaning efficiency and help raise service standards. It’s important to note that they do not replace human staff but provide additional support at the university.

  • In Building C, three robots are in operation: two on the hard-floor areas and one on the carpeted sections. They use the right side of the L6 lift next to the reception to move between floors.

  • At Gellért Campus, there is currently one robot operating only on the ground-floor areas.

How do the cleaning robots work

  • Intelligent Navigation: The robots are equipped with a laser navigation system (LiDAR) and 3D cameras, allowing them to create an accurate map of their surroundings. They can detect both moving and stationary obstacles—such as people, chairs, and tables—and safely navigate around them.

  • Autonomous Charging: When the battery runs low, the robot automatically returns to its docking station, recharges, and then resumes its work.

  • Elevator Use: The robots always use the same designated lift. They stop at a waiting point to call the lift, then position themselves in the center, where they have enough space to turn safely.

How can you help the robots with their work?

  • Give them space! If a robot is heading to the lift, please wait until it gets in. If you travel together, don’t block its path and allow it to exit first. This helps the robot work quickly and efficiently.

  • Do not obstruct their movement! The robots can automatically navigate around you, so there’s no need to try to guide them or push them.

  • Use of the emergency switch: The red button on top of the robot should only be used in an emergency, if it creates a hazardous situation or behaves abnormally.

  • Report any issues! If you see someone intentionally obstructing the robots, please report it to the colleagues of Campus Services at campus@uni-corvinus.hu.
