Researching team dynamics is part of collective learning

Bahadur Waseem joined the CCL Research Centre at Corvinus as a postdoctoral researcher in August 2024. Within the team dynamics group at CCL, he is engaged in empirical research focused primarily on gathering primary data at both the team and organizational levels.

Waseem was drawn to the team dynamics group due to his strong interest in leadership and team processes. He found it to be the ideal environment for collaborating with scholars who share similar themes of exploration.

Before joining CCL, Waseem was involved in teaching in China after completing his PhD at the University of Science and Technology of China in 2018. To enhance his research skills and contributions, he sought a research position in Europe and was introduced to the current postdoctoral opportunity at the Corvinus Centre for Collective Learning by a colleague.

At CCL, Waseem is particularly interested in studying leadership and teams from various perspectives. His research primarily focuses on how teams share knowledge, coordinate their efforts, and adapt to challenges. One of his current projects investigates how teams navigate challenges, especially under time pressure, and how leadership influences outcomes such as team creativity and well-being. This study emphasizes that a leader’s strict adherence to time limits can undermine team performance.

“Our research aims to make a real impact and help various organizations operate more efficiently,” Waseem added.

Research into group dynamics is closely linked to collective learning, as group behavior significantly affects how effectively members can collaborate to solve problems. From his experience, Waseem believes it is essential to be persistent and patient, as conducting good research is a long and gradual process.

He appreciates the stimulating research community and supportive work environment at Corvinus, which provides access to relevant resources and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. The group has been instrumental in refining his ideas and connecting him with researchers who share his interests in leadership and team dynamics. He has previously conducted research from the perspectives of leadership and teams and has published his work in quality journals, including a Q1-rated study.

“Research allows me to systematically explore team dynamics and contribute insights that can enhance teamwork and leadership in organizations,” he explained.

Waseem and his family arrived in Budapest, where they settled in a quiet suburban area. He considers Budapest a beautiful city and is particularly attracted to nature. In his free time, he enjoys hiking in the picturesque Buda mountains.
