Corvinus Researchers Win Prestigious International Award

Klaudia Szőts-Kováts, Assistant Professor, and Henriett Primecz, Professor at Corvinus University of Budapest, have received a prestigious international recognition after their joint study was honored with the Monica M. Lee Research Excellence Award by the Academy of Human Resource Development.

The award is presented to publications that appear in Human Resource Development International, a journal published by the renowned Taylor & Francis Group, and that demonstrate outstanding academic value. Human Resource Development International – which held a Q1 ranking at the time of submission – is today one of the leading international scholarly journals in the field. It integrates research and practice related to individual, group, and organizational learning and performance, consciously building bridges between theory and practice, academic and professional communities, as well as traditional and experimental methodological approaches. 

The article by the Corvinus researchers was selected as one of the top three papers of last year’s volume, with reviewers unanimously praising its high scientific quality and international impact. The awardwinning publication, titled “How do human resource managers make sense of their work? A study of changing work meaningfulness using the critical incident technique” examines how HR managers interpret the meaning of their work. The study explores how professionals construct workrelated meanings within a continuously evolving and complex organizational environment. According to the jury, the article identifies new relationships in the field of human resource development and makes a significant contribution to the advancement of HRD theory.

Outstanding Achievement of the Institute and the Department – Decades of Scholarly Development 

Both awardwinning authors are key members of the Department of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Development at Corvinus University. Klaudia SzőtsKováts and Henriett Primecz have each been working in the department for more than 20 years, both in researchfocused positions. This recognition clearly demonstrates that the department and its faculty are able to remain at the forefront of international HRD scholarship in the long term and produce research that resonates across global professional communities. 

The Department of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Development is the largest unit within the Institute of Management. Its research profile is characterized by a wide range of organizational theory approaches. The department’s research groups explore topics such as organizational behavior, organizational culture and diversity, future leadership and HR trends, human resource development, and behavioral sciencebased organizational development. Methodologically, the department is known for an innovative research culture that combines traditional quantitative and qualitative methods with participatory action learning and action research.

Corvinus Strengthens Its International Academic Presence 

Founded in 1993, the Academy of Human Resource Development (AHRD) is one of the most influential international academic organizations in the field of human resource development. Its mission is to promote the systematic research and advancement of HRD theories, processes, and practices. The organization connects researchers, practitioners, and educators worldwide and plays a leading role in shaping scholarly discourse in the field. 

The award is not only a personal success for the two authors but also another important milestone in strengthening the international academic presence of Corvinus University of Budapest. It demonstrates that the Corvinus research community is internationally competitive and capable of delivering research results that shape global discussions in their respective fields – human resource development, in this case.
