Our International Hub Events in London and The Hague

In recent days, we hosted successful alumni gatherings in two Western European cities, London and The Hague, for our alumni working abroad. These events once again highlighted the strong demand for more active engagement with the alma mater on an international level.

As part of the university’s internationalisation strategy, we have organised several international hub events over the past year, typically in cooperation with Hungarian embassies abroad. Last year, events were held in Munich and Zurich, while this year we kicked off with a gathering in London, followed a few days later by another international alumni event in The Hague.

On the evening of 12 March, we welcomed our alumni working in the United Kingdom in collaboration with the Hungarian Embassy in London. Among the eighty participants were former Corvinus students who have since built distinguished careers, including one who is now a professor at the University of Oxford, as well as several alumni holding senior positions in London’s business sector.

One of the hosts of the event, Ambassador Dr Ferenc Kumin, greeted guests as a proud Corvinus alumnus himself. Rector Bruno van Pottelsberghe spoke about the university’s new Bridge Strategy, its achievements to date, and the challenges ahead. He emphasised that in the coming period, key priorities will include improving the university’s position in major international rankings and strengthening its global presence. He also highlighted the goal of attracting high-achieving international students to Corvinus, while providing Hungarian students with more internship opportunities and international experience abroad.

“Until now, we have been national champions; now we are working to hold our own in the Europa League,” the Rector said, illustrating the university’s vision with a football analogy.

The evening continued with a standing reception and informal networking following the presentation.

A few days after the London event, on 16 March, we invited our alumni living and working in the Netherlands to a gathering in The Hague. More than 40 alumni attended the event, which also took place in a lively and welcoming atmosphere. Guests were welcomed by Ambassador Dániel Horogszegi-Szilágyi Landeck, followed by a presentation from Rector Bruno van Pottelsberghe. The evening then continued with a reception and informal discussions.

Participants at both the London and The Hague events expressed a clear interest in maintaining a closer relationship with their alma mater in the future, as well as strengthening connections among fellow alumni living in the same city through self-organised initiatives. To support this, the university will make every effort and will continue to organise hub events regularly in Western European cities in the future. The next stops of our international alumni meetups will be Brussels and Paris in the autumn.
