Successful MTA Doctor of Science Defence of Beáta Nagy

Professor at the Department of Sociology, Corvinus University of Budapest, successfully defended her Doctor of Science (DSc) dissertation entitled “Revolution of Gender? The Obstacle Course of Women Becoming Leaders”.

The public defense took place on 15 June in the Conference Hall of the Library and Information Centre of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and attracted significant interest. The review committee deemed Beáta Nagy’s defense successful, thereby successfully concluding the Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (DSc) procedure. Following a successful defense, the final decision on awarding the title is made by the Doctoral Council of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Once the title is formally awarded, the candidate will receive the diploma at a ceremonial event held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. 

Beáta Nagy is a Professor at the Institute of Political Science and Sociology of Corvinus University of Budapest and the founding director of the Center for Gender and Culture, which has been operating at the university since 2001. Her main research area is gender and labor market issues. Her most recent empirical studies, conducted together with her research colleagues, have focused on several topics, including the barriers faced by women in academia, the inequality-reinforcing mechanisms of executive recruitment and selection, and the division of household labor among families with young children during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

 

She is a member of the Executive Board of the European Consortium for Sociological Research (ECSR) and has served as President of the Hungarian Sociological Association since 2021. She also contributed to the work of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences’ Presidential Committee on Women in Research Careers. In addition, she actively supports the work of numerous civil society organizations.
