What does the CEMS double degree programme offer? – Interview with Dorottya Jancsó, Former President of CEMS Club Budapest

Lead: The CEMS Global Alliance in Management Education is one of the most prestigious collaborations between the world's leading business and economics universities. At CEMS's 33 member institutions, students from 78 countries can study abroad for half a year and become experts in their professions. We asked Dorottya Jancsó, former president of CEMS Club Budapest about her semester abroad, international networking and her responsibilities in leading the organisation.
Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem

Dóri graduated from Corvinus University of Budapest with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management in Hungarian, and she came across CEMS while researching master’s programmes. She eventually applied for a master’s degree in management and leadership in English, as it includes the CEMS double degree programme, one of the greatest benefits of which is its community. In her words, if she were to meet a CEMS student anywhere in the world, they would consider each other colleagues and friends. Regarding the double degree programme, she also emphasised that the international semester provides useful additional knowledge, when it comes to critical thinking or adaptability, that helps to step out into the labour market, since you can study with a different focus for half a year.

Dóri spent her semester abroad at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in Dublin. There, she also took part in skill seminars organised by CEMS, which are half-day or one-day long training sessions held by corporate partners such as Google, Salesforce or LinkedIn. Several of Dóri’s friends have found their workplaces in these companies through these events. CEMS partners in Hungary include MOL, MasterCard and Procter & Gamble.

Another unique feature of CEMS is the importance of group work, which she describes as follows: ‘At CEMS, we do everything in groups, even the thesis is written in pairs at most universities, so cooperation is a central element’.

The CEMS Club Budapest is responsible for providing information to those interested in the programme, coordinating the local community, organising team-building programmes and promoting various CEMS competitions and events. Dóri told us the following about her own role: ‘I am responsible for running the system here, and my joint task with the members of the CEMS Club is to maintain contact with this global community at a local level’.

For those interested in CEMS and the double degree programme, Dóri highly recommends not only the Budapest CEMS Club Instagram page, but also those of all other CEMS Clubs, and she also thinks it is worth asking alumni students for advice. She suggests all participants to be open, to dare to speak English and get to know others, and to make time for fun and rest alongside their studies and work, because, she adds with a smile, ‘We’ll have another 40-50 years left for work’.

Apply for the CEMS Programme at Corvinus between November 17–27, and join us at the CEMS Info Party on October 15!
