Generational Change in the 21st Century – Conference

The event was jointly organized by the Herman Ottó Institute, the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK), the Research Institute of Agricultural Economics (AKI), the Hungarian Agricultural Economics Association, and Corvinus University of Budapest.
The conference was opened by Attila Jámbor, Head of Institute at Corvinus University, who emphasized that the event closely aligns with the university’s educational, research, and community engagement goals. He highlighted that Corvinus considers it essential to contribute through its academic work to addressing the key challenges of the agricultural sector.
Áron Borda, PhD student at Corvinus University, was one of the key speakers. In his presentation, he discussed how the values and attitudes toward work differ across generations, and what challenges young people face when trying to enter the world of farming.

Zoltán Szilvás (strategic expert, NAK), who presented the new Farm Transfer Act, aimed at simplifying the process of passing farms to the next generation.

Eszter Hamza (AKI), who shared research findings showing that many young people are interested in agriculture, but various challenges still discourage them from choosing this career path.

János Fülepi (Ministry of Agriculture), who introduced support and mentoring programs designed to help young farmers at the beginning of their careers.
Overall, the conference demonstrated that cooperation between universities, professional organizations, and government institutions is essential for securing the future of agriculture.
