Ferenc Tóth, Associate Professor, Has Passed Away

Ferenc Tóth was born on November 13, 1948, in Tompa. He graduated with a degree in economics from the legal predecessor of the Corvinus University of Budapest, the Karl Marx University of Economics in 1973. He earned his doctoral degree from his alma mater in 1975. He was awarded the degree of Candidate of Economic Sciences in 1986.
He joined the university in 1973 as an intern. He served as a teaching assistant from 1975 and as an assistant professor from 1980. From 1987 until his retirement in 2015, he worked as an associate professor.
In the late 1980s, he played a significant role in developing courses aligned with the transition to a market economy (microeconomics, international economics). In 1992, he joined the Department of Business Economics, where he became a leading instructor in the Business Economics and Decision Theory course groups.
Throughout his more than four-decade-long university career, he made numerous contributions to both the development of the university and the strengthening of higher education. He was the founder of the Deutschsprachige Studiengang (DSG), a German-language program that recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. His sense of responsibility toward Hungarian higher education beyond the border is reflected in his founding and leading of a college-level training program in Királyhelmec. Strengthening higher education in rural areas was also a topic close to his heart; for many years, the University of Sopron has also been his home. Although he retired nearly a decade ago, he maintained his professional connections. Just a few weeks ago, he was discussing his plans and future collaborations with colleagues.
We will preserve his memory with respect and gratitude.
