Corvinus student in the finals of the national ethics case study competition

A total of 38 student teams from 9 higher education institutions registered for the competition. In the first round of the competition, participants solved a fictional case study on business ethics by the specified deadline, following a set of guided questions. The top six teams advanced to the finals, where, on-site and within 120 minutes, the students presented their solutions to a new case study in an “offline, open-book” format before a five-member panel of experts.

The national competition marked the final stage of a project that began a year and a half ago. Led by Dr. Katalin Szakács Mihalkovné, the joint effort was commissioned by the Bács-Kiskun County Chamber of Commerce and Industry and supported by the Youth Enterprise Support Society, with the primary goal of fostering ethical conduct among current and future economic actors.
As part of this initiative, which is based on four pillars, one of the goals was to examine the Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s potential contribution to ethical business practices. In this context, by analyzing international best practices, they made recommendations for updating the Chamber’s Code of Ethics and for the Chamber’s potential role in fostering ethical business practices; they drafted a publicly available, general Compliance Guide and Code of Ethics that can be tailored to the image of businesses for micro- and small enterprises; developed a business ethics curriculum for students participating in the Chamber’s vocational training programs; and assessed the ethical education practices in Hungarian higher education from the perspectives of content and teaching methodology.

The project represented a long-term commitment for the participants, so the “Ethics in Business” competition is expected to continue in the coming years.
