Budapest Science Diplomacy Summer School

The event was supported by the project titled ‘Catalysing Science Diplomacy: New Career Perspectives, Curricula and International Partnerships’ (2023-1-HU01-KA220-HED-000165139), co-funded by the European Union. The participants had the chance to get engaged in lectures and interactive seminars, and discussions led by top experts in the field of science and technology diplomacy, innovation, startups, and many more topics.
The five-day-long event included in-person and hybrid modules, as well as a study visit to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, where an intensive simulation game of the EU’s decision-making was conducted. A particular strenght of the school was that the students presented their insights on how science diplomacy could help to be prepared for global pandemics; to foster the development of innovation infrastructure in the Global South; to brand Europe as attractive region for for scientists and young talents; as well as how to use AI in science and diplomacy in a responsible way and how to tackle climate change-induced migration. All the presentations demonstrated meaningful insights and valuable recommendations to these contemporary challenges.
Many thanks to all participants from the various fields of international relations, diplomacy, public policy, and business for their active participation. Based on the valuable experiences, the organizers and the speakers of the Budapest Science Diplomacy School are strongly convinced that the event created a tradition, and the Corvinus University of Budapest will host a similar event with an even higher standard in the near future.
