The Role of AI in the Future of Sustainability – UNICEF 5th Climate Heroes Conference

In 2026, UNICEF Hungary organized the Climate Heroes conference for the fifth time, hosted at the Planet Budapest event venue. More than 600 students arrived from all parts of the country to listen to expert presentations, ask questions, and discuss the challenges of climate change and the changes that will shape their future. At the roundtable discussions, psychologists, researchers, teachers — including András Márton, assistant professor and futurist at the Sustainable Development Institute of Corvinus University — as well as ministry representatives responded to the young participants’ questions, while UNICEF’s Young Ambassadors represented their generation’s perspective. The aim of the program was to create an open and safe space for dialogue, where all questions could be raised, from sustainability to the impacts of artificial intelligence on our future. Students engaged with great enthusiasm, and many conversations continued even during the breaks.

In the UNICEF Experience Space, representatives from various fields demonstrated how anyone can contribute to a more sustainable future, while children deepened their knowledge through interactive exhibitions. The event also introduced the Climate Wake-Up Lesson, a program that uses experiential learning tools to help reduce climate anxiety among 10–18-year-olds. One of the visual highlights of the event was a giant hen made from recycled materials, to which students added a small chick crafted from reused items. Organizers emphasized their continued commitment to involving young people in climate action and providing opportunities for them to learn, ask questions, and express their views.
