At Corvinus, it has long been a tradition to celebrate our colleagues’ academic advancements, the arrival of new faculty and researchers, and the appointment of new Professor Emeriti. This year’s annual certificate ceremony took place on 14 October, where a total of 59 academic staff members received honorary certificates.
Starting November, the University has introduced a new tradition for awarding certificates: newly appointed colleagues are now welcomed each month during the Senate meeting. This allows the University leadership to personally congratulate them immediately following their appointment.
At the most recent session, we celebrated the promotions and arrivals of the following colleagues.
András Gál Assistant Professor (Institute of Social and Political Sciences)

He earned his degree in Political Science at Corvinus University (2008–2014), followed by master’s and doctoral studies at Central European University (CEU) between 2014 and 2021, including research fellowships in Leiden and Jerusalem. Between 2020 and 2025, he taught at the St. Petersburg campus of the Higher School of Economics (HSE), first as an assistant lecturer and later as an assistant professor, where he received the “Best Teacher” award in two consecutive years (2023 and 2024). His research focuses on democracy in ethnically diverse and divided societies, with particular interest in institutional and constitutional questions and the role of constitutional courts. His works appeared in leading journals such as Democratization (D1) and Nations and Nationalism (Q1), and he is currently in discussions with a major academic press regarding his book project, Constitutional Review in Consociations.

He spent five years as a post-doctoral fellow conducting innovative research at University College Dublin (UCD) and is now in his third year teaching political economy to undergraduate PPE and graduate political science students at CEU Vienna. With over 250 citations on Google Scholar, he has an international profile as a political economist with a comparative European perspective, specializing in economic and political transitions, particularly the transformation of labor politics and public services. His first single-authored monograph, The Transformation of Discontent, explores the shift of trade union activity in Europe from private industries to public services, especially healthcare and education.
Congratulations on the promotions, and we warmly welcome our new colleagues to our academic community.
