Budapest Honvéd Sports Association becomes partner of Corvinus’s sports-focused Economics Master’s programme

The agreement was signed at Corvinus on 4 March by Lajos György Szabó, Vice-Rector for Academic Programmes, Dániel Havran, Dean responsible for the University’s master’s programme portfolio, and István Gergely, President and CEO of BHSE.
The cooperation covers several areas, including providing internships, student project work and case studies, potential joint research, and organising guided professional visits connected to sports facilities. The parties also plan joint events and professional forums where academic and sports business experience can meet.
The agreement also offers support for BHSE athletes who are admitted to the University, for example through individual study arrangements, online course materials and e-learning opportunities, in line with University regulations.
“Sport is not only about leisure, competition, or health, it also has a significant socio economic impact on our society. Our newly launched International Sports Business Master’s programme allows our learners to understand the complex issues of the sports economy, trains them to be actors of change in the area, and gives them many opportunity to network and learn from renowned and specialized guest speakers in the world of sport, and this is what makes our partnership with BHSE so relevant. In this way, students gain direct insight into the day-to-day operation of sport as significant socioeconomic activity in Budapest, an internationally significant sporting city where sport is an integral part of social life,” said Bruno van Pottelsberghe, Rector of Corvinus.
“For Budapest Honvéd Sports Association, supporting dual careers is a core value, which is why our cooperation with Corvinus University of Budapest is strategically important to us. We believe that high-level sporting performance and quality higher education are not mutually exclusive, but mutually reinforcing. This partnership provides tangible support to our athletes so that, even during their active careers, they can lay the foundations for their future within Corvinus’s professional environment, a key player in Hungarian and regional economics higher education,” emphasised István Gergely, Chief Executive President of BHSE.
According to the parties, the cooperation can strengthen Budapest’s role in international sports business education in the long term, while offering tangible benefits both for students and for the sports association.
