Corvinus Alumnus Wins Project Manager of the Year Award

This is the twenty-fifth time the Project Management Board has presented the Project Manager of the Year Award, which this year went to Ádám Bándy, an alumnus of Corvinus who completed his economics degree with a focus on market analysis. Thanks to the project he led, from September 2024 anyone can make payments with QR codes during in-store or online purchases, regardless of their bank.
To mark the recognition, HR Portal conducted an interview with the senior project manager. According to Ádám Bándy, today a project manager does more than coordinate tasks — they build trust, which requires strong collaboration skills and strategic thinking. Because of the complexity of the role, he doesn’t believe artificial intelligence will replace project managers anytime soon.
Drawing on his own career, he believes the most effective path is to first gain in-depth expertise in a specific field, then build on that with project management methodology. Ádám completed the business analysis specialisation at Corvinus, then started working at a commercial bank, where he acquired essential industry knowledge. Later he joined a software development company, where he could build on his banking background with IT skills, and he also gained international experience through several projects. Only after that did he start working as a project manager at a major financial corporation.
The interview also sheds light on what a project manager’s typical day looks like, the challenges they face, and the skills and background needed to truly excel in this profession.
Project management can currently be studied at Corvinus in two specialised postgraduate programmes: Large-Scale Investment Project Management/ Specialist in Economics, and International Project Manager / Specialist in Economics. Alumni receive a 10% discount on tuition fees.
