Date: 09 October 2025, 18:00–20:00
Venue: Corvinus University of Budapest, Building C, Room C.107
Language: Hungarian
Did you know that nearly one-third of household waste consists of biodegradable organic matter that doesn’t belong in the general waste bin? The footprint of our meals doesn’t end on the plate: by composting, we can produce valuable humus, reduce food waste, and contribute to more sustainable urban living.
Now you can also learn the basics of urban composting! Join the Compost Steward Workshop at Corvinus, where Udvarnoki Tünde, creator of the clay COMPOT indoor composters, will show:
-
what alternatives exist for urban composting,
-
how indoor composting works,
-
what can and cannot go into a composter,
-
and how to build a community around your compost.
Learn simple, practical methods and become a Compost Steward yourself! Come along especially if your university community (student college, student organization, or staff unit) would like to join the initiative and become a compost steward — this session will provide all the necessary information on how to get involved.
The event will also introduce the #LOESS project, an initiative of the Corvinus Science Shop focused on soil health education. Composting not only helps reduce kitchen waste and recycle organic matter but also reconnects us with the soil. You’ll hear about the project’s results so far and the tools developed for public use — such as an educational mobile app and a soil mass mapping tool.
This workshop is part of Corvinus University’s Community Composting Project, launched a year ago. Indoor composting began in two student colleges last autumn using COMPOT containers, with professional guidance from Udvarnoki Tünde — and a research project is following the process. The initiative will continue in the 2025–26 academic year, expanding to new locations and staff units as well.
October’s “Sustainability Theme of the Month” focuses on sustainable eating.
