Tamás Dávid-Barrett, an evolutionary behavioral researcher, explores the qualities that enable humans to thrive in large, culturally complex societies. His primary focus is on the formation and regulation of social networks, as well as the evolutionary origins of the traits that facilitate social network-building.
In his upcoming book, The Natural History of Patriarchy, Dávid-Barrett examines how gender norms have evolved across different cultures and historical periods. The book approaches the emergence and persistence of patriarchal systems from an evolutionary anthropology perspective, offering a fascinating insight into how biological and cultural factors shape our societies.
Currently a faculty member at Trinity College, Oxford, Tamás Dávid-Barrett also works with the Väestöliitto Population Research Institute in Helsinki and is a member of the Royal Anthropological Institute and the Royal Society of Arts. In addition to his work at Oxford, he has previously been affiliated with the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (Germany) and the Universidad del Desarrollo in Santiago (Chile). Dávid-Barrett completed his studies in London, Cambridge, and Budapest at Corvinus University. Before embarking on his academic career, he led a research consultancy specializing in developing economies, after which his focus shifted towards evolutionary behavioral research.
