Blood donation in the Main Building on April 28

As part of the Higher Education Blood Donation Weeks, we invite Corvinus students and staff to donate blood.
Date: 28 April 2025, 11:00–17:00
Location: Corvinus University of Budapest, Building E, Lecture Hall III
What you will need: ID card, social security (TAJ) card, and address card
The Higher Education Blood Donation Weeks are a joint campaign by the Hungarian National Blood Supply Service and the Hungarian Red Cross, aiming to make blood donation a shared community experience for young people.
Donating blood takes only 30–45 minutes, but during that time, up to three patients’ lives can be saved.
Essential requirements:
- You must be healthy (no cold, sore throat, etc)!
- Minimum body weight: 50 kg
- ID (or driver’s license or passport), TAJ card, and address card are mandatory
- You should eat beforehand and drink plenty of fluids – the amount of blood taken is 450 ml, which is a reserve for the body, so adequate hydration is important to avoid any issues
Who can donate and how often?
- Between ages 18–60, or up to 65 for regular donors
- Men: 4–5 times per year; Women: up to 4 times per year (after menopause only with medical approval)
- Donors must consider the past 365 days: if within that period men have donated 5 times or women 3 times, they must wait until one year has passed since the first donation
- A minimum of 8 weeks (56 days) must pass between donations
- Anemia is checked on-site (painless fingertip test)
- Controlled high blood pressure is acceptable if current values are normal (checked by a doctor on-site)
- Taking medication is not automatically disqualifying (except antibiotics); the examining doctor decides on-site
When is donation not allowed?
- After tooth extraction, root canal treatment, or antibiotics: 4-week waiting period
- Diabetes: Type 1 (insulin-dependent) is not allowed
- Pregnancy is a disqualifying condition; after childbirth: 1 year waiting period; after breastfeeding: at least 6 months
- After herpes infection: 4-week waiting period
- After tattoos (including cosmetic tattoos), piercings, or acupuncture: 4-month waiting period
- After a tick bite: 6–8 weeks waiting period; confirmed Lyme disease results in permanent exclusion (current regulation)
- If you have been in a malaria-risk area within the past year: at least 6 months waiting period (if no medication taken); after taking anti-malaria medication, medical consultation is required, but at least a 3-year waiting period applies
What you can be sure of:
- There is no risk of infection; only single-use equipment is used
- Personal data is handled in accordance with data protection regulations by the National Blood Supply Service
