Corvinus Held a Summer University on Building a Sustainable Society in the Age of AI

The Corvinus Summer University was launched this year as a pilot program under the theme “Sustainable Society in the Age of AI”. Participants came from diverse backgrounds in terms of age, education, and nationality, bringing a wide range of perspectives to the collaborative work. This diversity meaningfully contributed to the results achieved by the end of the week.

Held from July 7–11, 2025, the one-week course offered a rich and varied program focusing on the intersections of sustainability, design communication, and artificial intelligence. Through the DIS:CO design communication methodology, students explored the tools of design and communication, engaging with the topic of sustainability in a playful and creative way. At the same time, they gained insights into the role of AI in addressing societal challenges through hands-on, real-world examples. The knowledge and experience gained throughout the week were brought to life in the inspiring Makerspace at the Gellért Campus, where students developed and visualized their own project ideas.

The learning experience extended beyond the university campus. During a company visit to KPMG, students took part in an interactive game focusing on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs Game), in collaboration with Collab Mentoring. They also gained valuable insights from a KPMG ESG consultant on how large corporations are implementing innovative and sustainable solutions.

As part of the Corvinus Science Shop program, students visited the so-called Adaptér (adapt-territory), where they met with the Heroes of Responsible Dining (Felelős Gasztrohős) team to explore the sustainability aspects of food consumption habits. Additionally, a training session by Carbon.Crane helped participants assess their own ecological footprint and identify practical ways to reduce it.

The professional program was enriched by an interactive city tour and community-building event organized by the AEGEE student association, fostering international networking and cultural exchange among participants.

We would like to thank all this year’s participants for their active engagement, as well as our lecturers and partners for their collaboration. Their contributions helped us showcase the diversity of our university and explore the complex relationship between sustainability and artificial intelligence from multiple perspectives.
