Professor Emeritus Miklós Dobák received the Cursus Vitae Aureus Award of of the Committee on Business and Management Science of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). The distinction may be granted each year to no more than three public body members who have reached the age of 60. The decision is made by a board composed of recognized members of the Hungarian business and management academic community. The award honors a professional career and body of achievement whose impact extends beyond the recipient’s own university and educational or research unit, and is of substantial significance for the Hungarian business and management profession as a whole.

Miklós Dobák served as Head of the Institute of Strategy and Management (formerly the Department of Management and Organization) for 28 years. His school-creating scholarly work encompassed the fields of organizational structures, process organization, controlling, and change management. His professional books remain influential to this day, both in Hungarian higher education and in corporate practice.

At the beginning of his career, his nearly two years of research at the University of Cologne proved to be a defining experience. Later, he participated on several occasions in programs organized by leading U.S. business schools — including Harvard, Stanford, and Wharton — where he gained first-hand insight from the world’s foremost management theorists. He consistently returned home with new approaches, a wealth of bestselling books and case studies, and ensured their adaptation within the Hungarian context.

His credibility as an educator was further strengthened by his practical achievements. In 1989, together with two colleagues, he founded the Budapest office of IFUA Horváth & Partners, which remains a key player in the Hungarian management consulting market to this day. In addition to serving on numerous academic bodies, he was elected to the boards of directors and supervisory boards of several major corporations, including the MOL Group.

He received the Corvinus University “Teacher of the Year” award on several occasions, a distinction that faithfully reflects his dedication: in his teaching, he always regarded direct, value-creating engagement with students as paramount. His work was further recognized with the Szent-Györgyi Albert Award in 2002, and in 2015 he was awarded the Antal Máriás Memorial Medal for his outstanding contributions to talent development.

Congratulations on receiving the Cursus Vitae Aureus Award!
