Dániel Horn is the Head of the Institute of Economics from May 1

Among the applicants for the leadership of the Corvinus Institute of Economics, the Evaluation Committee recommended Dániel Horn to head the institute, a proposal that was also supported by the Senate. The appointment is for one year starting from May 1, 2026, and may be optionally extended by a further two years.
Dániel Horn has been teaching at Corvinus University of Budapest since February 2020, where he is involved in both undergraduate and doctoral programs, and he also regularly teaches PhD courses at universities abroad. He began his research career in 2002 at the National Institute of Public Education. His work focuses on the effectiveness and equity of education, with a central research question: “Why do some people succeed in school?”
He brings an interdisciplinary academic background: an MSc in Economics and Teacher of Economics (Corvinus University), an MA and PhD in Political Science (Central European University), and a habilitation in Sociology (Eötvös Loránd University).
Throughout his career, he has held several international academic and professional positions. Since 2023, he has been chair of the National Statistical Council; and from September 2025, he has been co-director of the Rajk László College for Advanced Studies. His leadership philosophy is rooted in trust, collaboration, and data-informed management.
He brings a strong international profile: he has held visiting positions at the University of Mannheim (MZES – as PhD student), the European University Institute (as Max Weber Post-Doctoral Fellow), and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Vienna (as senior research fellow). He maintains active and strong collaborations with top European research teams.
In his application, he outlined, among other things, the following objectives regarding the leadership of the institute:
- strengthening the institute’s research excellence and international visibility,
- supporting the professional development of faculty through mentoring, and enhancing the integration of early-career researchers,
- fostering interdisciplinary collaboration within Corvinus University of Budapest and with external partners,
