This October marked a new milestone for the University, as it received the “Family Friendly Place Certification – Workplace” label following an audit by the Family Friendly Hungary Centre.
“Receiving this award shows that our joint efforts and initiatives are delivering real results. The measures introduced in recent years aim to help colleagues balance work and family life, and this certification confirms that we are moving in the right direction. At the same time, the result is not a finishing line but a new starting point. Our goal is to support our staff even more comprehensively in the future,” said Klára Tatár-Kiss, Chief Culture and People Officer at Corvinus University.
Extra leave, mental health support and discounted camps
In recent years the University, working closely with the Trade Union and HR, has introduced a wide range of family friendly programmes and measures, which led to the certification. Among the available benefits is one extra day of leave per child beyond what is required by the Labour Code, and full absence pay for paternity leave days. Corvinus parents also receive nursery and school-start support, as well as contributions linked to childbirth or adoption. The University organises summer camps for children at half price. A guide has been prepared for new parents to help them navigate tasks related to having a child, and mental health support is available on request.
Corvinus also organises popular Children’s Day and Saint Nicholas Day programmes every year. The community initiatives include a Parents’ Club and a rest room, and staff regularly run toy donation drives. When planning teaching schedules, the University aims to take family circumstances into account, and hybrid working is also an option. Children receive additional discounts when staying at the trade union holiday resort on top of the already reduced staff rates. Through the Social Committee, the University can also provide targeted help for employees facing unexpected difficulties.
Corvinus considers it important to stay connected with colleagues who are currently on parental leave. To support this, parents at home can continue to access the University intranet, use their University email accounts and stay in the discounted mobile network.
