The “Strategic and International Management Research Centre” was founded in January 2005, providing a framework for research related to strategy. The Management and Strategy Department that has been an independent unit in our Institute since 2009, was headed until 2013 by Károly Balaton, a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, who still has a close relation with the staff of the department. After the professor, the department was headed by Dr. habil. Lilla Hortoványi until 2018. As of October 2018, the dean of the Business and Management faculty appointed Balázs Felsmann to carry out the professional management tasks of the Management and Strategy Department.
The objective is to identify and prepare interview-based case studies of domestic companies that meet the definition of a hidden champion. These companies must demonstrate a competitive advantage, global or regional market leadership, relatively low visibility, and be a domestic company. This is the third phase of the research, following those conducted in 2011 and 2018. It is currently being carried out in over 20 countries. The research involves structured, in-depth interviews, which are then followed by the preparation of case studies. These are preceded by a country presentation. The research is ongoing, but we have already identified several new Hidden Champions, including Mcule, Julius-K9, Mertcontrol and Pallet.
