Doctoral Programme

The programme offers the highest level of education in business and management, preparing students for an international academic career as well as for senior executive and expert consultancy roles. We build a bridge between scientifically validated methodologies and complex organisational realities.

Key research areas

  • Organisational levels: From start-ups to large corporations, we examine individual, group and organisational processes, as well as their embeddedness in networks. 
  • Hard and soft factors: Our research spans through strategy and business models to leadership style, organisational culture and identity. 
  • Perspective: We support a diversity of scientific paradigms (functionalist, interpretive, critical and postmodern approaches). 

Our students gain expertise across every phase of the research life cycle, including: 

  • Qualitative methods: case studies, in-depth interviews, content analysis or ethnography; 
  • Quantitative methods: questionnaire surveys and multivariate statistical analyses; 
  • Mixed methods: combining the two approaches to achieve deeper understanding. 

Our graduates can embark on an academic career using scientifically grounded methods, or become leading experts in strategic consultancy and the corporate sector. 

Admission Information

The general rules of the admission procedure are set out in Sections 21–22 of the University Doctoral Regulations (EDSZ), which can be accessed by clicking here. 

Key information for applicants: 

  • Programme selection: The chosen doctoral programme must be clearly indicated in the application. 
  • Prior consultation: Before submitting the application, applicants are required to consult the relevant Programme Director. Written support (a recommendation) from the Programme Director must be attached to the application. 
  • Language: The research proposal must be submitted in English, and the language of the oral interview is also English. 
  • Research proposal: The expected length is 5 pages (excluding references). The recommended structure can be found in Annex 2 of the Doctoral School’s Rules of Operation. 

Assessment process: 

Admission to the Doctoral School is based on the evaluation of the applicant’s prior academic and professional achievements, as well as written and oral entrance examinations. The final decision is made based on the preliminary assessment of the submitted materials and the outcome of the oral interview. 

The purpose of the oral examination is to assess the applicant’s: 

  • motivation and professional commitment, 
  • suitability for carrying out teaching and research duties.

Research topic proposals for applicants interested in the Strategy, Management and Entrepreneurship Programme.
