From Starting Over to Entrepreneurship – Alumni Stories with Miklós Nagygyörgy

Miklós Nagygyörgy, the founder and creator of the Apa+Én (Dad+Me) programmes, knew exactly what he wanted to achieve in life from the age of sixteen and was making steady progress in his professional career. However, a life-changing event eventually set him on a completely different path.
Budapesti Corvinus Egyetem

Miklós Nagygyörgy is a great example of a Corvinus student who, even at a young age, was highly driven and entrepreneurial, and willing to work hard to achieve success. During his university years, he began building Hungarian and international startups together with his fellow students. He also played a role in building Profession.hu, a venture that became a major success within just two to three years.

The turning point in his life came with the birth of his second daughter, who was born with Down syndrome. “Its impact is still with me to this day, in both positive and negative ways. It became clear to me then that the way of life that had worked until that point would no longer work,” he recalls.

Around that time, he left all the companies he had built up to that point and began exploring new directions.

“Apa+Én is essentially the result of post-traumatic growth. The venture grew out of the realisation that family and my children are more important than anything else,” he says.

This core idea gave rise to Apa+Én, a venture designed to give fathers the opportunity to spend quality time with their children and devote their undivided attention to one child at a time for a day or an entire weekend. The first programme, a “secret agent training camp in the Mátra Mountains”, launched in 2018. Since then, the team has also organised wizarding schools for younger children and their dads, as well as white-water rafting trips in Austria.

From the very beginning, he involved former Corvinus classmates and friends in developing the business model and testing the programmes. “Corvinus gave me so many friends, a vibrant community life and professional connections that will last a lifetime,” he adds.
