TÜBA Turcology Research Fellowship Program 2025

The Turkish Academy of Sciences (TÜBA) and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) are launching a Fellowship Program as part of the Hungarian-Turkish Year of Science and Innovation.

The aim of the program is to support Hungarian PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in the field of Turcology by providing them the opportunity to conduct research in Turkey. The program is open to a maximum of five (5) Hungarian PhD students and/or postdoctoral researchers whose research focuses on Turkish linguistics, literature, history, art, archaeology, or political science. 

 

Duration: 
The fellowship supports research stays of two months. The funding period may be extended by up to one or two additional months, provided that both the researcher and the invited Turkish academic submit an official request justifying the need for extension. 
 

Research period: September-December 2025. 

 

Deadline: 20 June 2025 

 

Financial support: 

  • Accommodation: Provided by the host universities 

  • Stipend: USD 750 per month, funded by TÜBA 

  • Travel costs 

 

Application procedure: 

Contact a Turkish academic: 

Applicants must establish contact with a professor of Turcology based in Turkey, who agrees – by written statement – to supervise and cooperate with the applicant during the research period. The invited academic must be affiliated with one of the following universities: 

  • Anadolu University (Eskişehir) 

  • Ankara University (Ankara) 

  • Boğaziçi University (Istanbul) 

  • Hacı Bayram Veli University (Ankara) 

 

Submitting the application: 

Applicants must submit their application materials electronically (in PDF format) to the Department of International Relations at the Secretariat of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (mobilitas@titkarsag.mta.hu), which is responsible for checking the formal compliance of the applications. 

 

Selection of successful applicants: 

Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by a selection committee composed of three Hungarian and two Turkish experts.
