The Water4All Partnership addresses ecosystem services

2023-07-25 08:43:00

The programme supports research and innovation projects to improve the security of water resources.

The Water4All Partnership is an intergovernmental research and innovation programme co-funded by Horizon Europe to support research and innovation projects addressing ecosystem service challenges and long-term improvements in water security.

Partnerships calls are not affected by the temporary restriction of the Council Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/2506, so we can apply for and receive funding (even in the role of a Coordinator): the proposal is submitted and evaluated at international level, but the Hungarian member(s) of the winning consortium will sign the grant agreement with the National Research, Development and Innovation Office.

The Water4All call 2023

The general theme of the Water4All 2023 Joint Transnational Call is “Ecosystem Services”, with aquatic ecosystems in the focus, including inland surface water, groundwater, transitional and coastal water, and having water security on top of the objectives.

There are three topics:

  1. Mapping, monitoring, and assessment for a better understanding of ecosystem services in a context of changes, from local to global change.
  1. Understanding and predicting multiple pressures (incl. anthropogenic pressures) – impact – response relationships in ecosystem services through advanced methods and techniques.
  1. New tools and solutions for a better integration of ecosystem services into the management of water resources.

Call phases

International phase: The international call is performed in 2 stages:

  • Stage 1: Submission of a pre-proposal, the project consortium selects one or more of the above topics. If the pre-proposal is selected, the project consortium is invited to submit a full proposal.
  • Stage 2: Submission of a full proposal. It is not possible to join stage 2 directly, only if the pre-proposal is invited to submit a full proposal.

National/regional phase: All the partners from the projects selected in Stage 2 of the International Phase should apply for the national phase directly at their relevant funding agency. In the case of Hungarian partners, a Hungarian-language application should be submitted to the NRDI Office (no further evaluation at national level will take place, the NRDI Office will accept the results of the international evaluation).
