The international ESG conference, held on November 26 in Budapest, brought together experts from Hungary, Austria, Germany, and the USA to discuss the current landscape of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices. Among the distinguished speakers was Dr. Helena Naffa, associate professor from the Institute of Finance of Corvinus University of Budapest and Director of the Sustainable Finance Research Centre (SFRC). Her presentation focused on how ESG principles can extend beyond compliance to support corporate resilience by effectively managing risks and uncovering new business opportunities.

The conference addressed challenges and opportunities arising from new ESG regulations introduced in 2024. With more than a thousand Hungarian companies preparing for mandatory sustainability and ESG reporting by 2025, topics included the implementation of due diligence obligations, the development of risk management systems, and strategies for integrating ESG into daily corporate practices. Helena Naffa emphasized the importance of balancing environmental, social, and governance elements to navigate uncertainties and achieve long-term resilience.

Participants gained knowledge of the practical applications of ESG, including its potential to drive market benefits and operational sustainability. Sessions explored the ESG framework, effective screening of supply chains, and materiality tests required for comprehensive compliance. The event also offered a platform for leading experts to share best practices, empowering professionals to transform ESG obligations into opportunities for innovation and growth.
