Support first-year students and apply as a peer mentor for the START-U course

The programme will be available next semester as an optional module titled “Preparatory Seminar for START-U Guides”, for which you can earn 3 credits. As a peer mentor, you can be a reliable point of contact that a first-year student can turn to at any time. You will help them navigate their studies, university systems, and social life, while also building a friendly and inclusive community around them.
What does this involve in practice?
- Being present and available throughout the semester
- Sharing your own experiences
- Organising small, informal meet-ups
- Taking part in preparatory facilitator training sessions, workshops, and meetings related to the course
- Planning, managing, and moderating the communication channels of your mentee group (Teams/Moodle)
- Attending a weekly online meeting with the course instructor (30 minutes per week, minimum 75% attendance)
While supporting others, you will also develop yourself in many ways:
- You will receive training in communication and mentoring
- You will develop skills that are valuable in any field
(leadership, communication, organisation, collaboration, self-reflection) - You can have a real impact on someone else’s university experience
If you enjoy working with people and would like to support a fellow student, apply here.
Application deadline: 27 April
Selection period: first two weeks of May
Further details about the selection process, results, and additional information will be shared with participants at a later stage.
