Robotaxis in California – has the era of self-driving cars arrived?

Róbert Marciniak, Associate Professor at the Corvinus Department of Strategic Management, recently had the opportunity to study the current state of autonomous vehicle technology and the development of related business models in California, one of the global hubs of self-driving innovation.

He was able to try one of the world’s most advanced autonomous ride-hailing taxis, the Waymo robotaxi, twiceonce in San Francisco and once in Los Angeles. He shared his experiences and assessment on Qubit. 

From his article, we learn not only that Waymo’s valuation has now surpassed Ford’s, but also how significant and dramatic the road safety benefits of autonomous technology are. And that travelling by robotaxi in Los Angeles is cheaper than taking a taxi in Budapest.
