National Final of the German-Language Secondary School Debate Competition Co-organised by DSG

Launched in Germany in 2001, Jugend debattiert (“Youth Debates”) has since expanded across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, promoting debate culture and democratic discourse amongst young people. This year’s Hungarian national final was hosted at the Gellért Campus of Corvinus University of Budapest. The competition was jointly organised by several international organisations and institutions, with DSG serving as the host.
In the final round, participants debated whether the use of social media should be prohibited for young people under the age of 16 in Hungary. The winner of the competition was Luca Eszter Tóth (Austrian School Budapest), while Vera Sekovanic (ELTE Ágoston Trefort Practice High School, Budapest) finished in second place. They will represent Hungary at the international final in Berlin, where students from more than 17 European countries will discuss key social and political issues in German.
