More Than 800 Alumni Celebrated With Us at the Annual Alumni Reunion

For one evening, alumni of Corvinus University and its predecessor institutions filled the atrium and foyer of Building E. Graduates from as early as 1955 through to recent years came together once again at the university’s annual alumni reunion, with more than 800 participants celebrating this special occasion together.
The event was opened by Rector Bruno van Pottelsberghe, who noted that one of the university’s greatest assets is its strong alumni community. For this reason, Corvinus places special emphasis on developing its alumni network and maintaining continuous engagement with graduates both in Hungary and internationally. The annual alumni reunion held on campus was preceded by smaller alumni gatherings organized last autumn and this spring in several international locations, including Zurich, Munich, London, and Amsterdam. As part of the HÍD Strategy, these international hub events will continue in the autumn, with upcoming gatherings planned in Brussels and Paris.
In his welcome address, the Rector said:
“I am proud that for many years we have been educating the leaders of tomorrow, and that five ministers and thirteen state secretaries in Hungary’s new government are Corvinus graduates. I am also delighted that from London to Budapest, the Corvinus alumni community forms one large network, and that more than 800 of us are celebrating together here today.”
During the event, Rector Bruno van Pottelsberghe also announced the launch of the Alumni Scholarship Programme. Through this initiative, the university aims to provide graduates with an opportunity to give back and support talented Corvinus students from disadvantaged backgrounds in pursuing their studies.
Following the Rector’s speech, the evening continued with the presentation of the Alumni of the Year Awards. As in previous years, members of the Corvinus alumni community nominated former students for the award, and a professional committee selected two recipients who have made outstanding contributions to the university community.
In the Professional Excellence category, the Alumni of the Year Award was presented to Gergely Márkus, Country Manager of Mastercard for Hungary and Slovenia. In the Shaping the Future category, which recognizes alumni under the age of 30, the university honored Gellért Zsombor Székely for his contributions to the community.
The evening then continued with informal networking and entertainment. Guests enjoyed live music, a selection of food and refreshments, and later a DJ performance. In addition, visitors had the opportunity to sample products from three alumni exhibitors: Toboz Beer, Lunczer Pálinka, and Spájz Szörp.
