Call for Applications for the 2026 János Bolyai Research Fellowship is Now Open

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences has announced the 2026 János Bolyai Research Fellowship. The aim of the fellowship is to support the preparation of high-quality scientific work and to assist researchers in preparing for the award of the MTA Doctor of Science title. Applications may be submitted in all fields of science.
Who can apply?
Applicants must:
- be Hungarian citizens or ethnic Hungarian researchers living abroad,
- hold a PhD or equivalent degree at the time of submission (or have already received a positive decision from the Doctoral Council),
- not yet have obtained the title of MTA Doctor of Science,
- not have reached the age of 45 by the submission deadline (the age limit is extended by two years per child for researchers raising minor children),
- plan to conduct their research at a Hungarian research institution and possess a host institution declaration.
Please note: applications must be submitted in Hungarian.
Amount and duration of the fellowship
- Monthly fellowship amount: HUF 250,000 gross
- The fellowship may be awarded for 1, 2 or 3 years
- Former fellows may apply again if their previous final research report was rated “outstanding” or “good”

Host Institution Declaration – important information
As part of the application, applicants are requested to send the research institution’s statement of acceptance to the Centre for Grant and Project Managment.
