The Corvinus prepares for Hungarian-Kazakh student and lecturer exchange programmes

The Corvinus will cooperate with the Gumilyov University and the Suleyman Demirel University in Erasmus programmes, and may act as a host institution for Kazakh students winning foreign scholarships.

On January 27, the Corvinus University and the Gumilyov University, one of the leading institutions of higher education in Kazakhstan, signed a cooperation agreement at the meeting of the Hungarian-Kazakh Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation.

Mr Yermek Konekbayev, Head of the Office of International Relations at the Gumilyov University had a meeting on January 26 at the Corvinus University with Péter Fehér, Vice-President for International Relations and the heads of the Central Asia Research Centre. The two universities won an Erasmus tender supporting the exchange of lecturers and students already in 2019, but the travel restrictions imposed because of the Covid-19 did not allow for the implementation of the exchange programmes. Based on the agreement signed now, the two universities will soon start the preparations for another exchange programme. 

Suleyman Demirel University

One of the members of the Kazakh delegation coming to attend the session of the Committee was Mr Andrey Bogdanchikov, Vice-Rector of the Suleyman Demirel University and Mr Beibit Dyussupov, Head of the Office of International Relations. This university is one of the leading private institutions of higher education in Kazakhstan, On January 25, the representatives of the university had a meeting with the heads of the Central Asia Research Centre of the Corvinus. The Vice-Rector explained that in the future they wish to sign a cooperation agreement with the Corvinus University for the exchange of lecturers and students. They see a good opportunity for the two universities to apply jointly for Erasmus support and implement joint research programmes. 

On January 26, Ms Ljazat Adilova, Head of the International Relations Department of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Kazakhstan, who also came to Budapest to attend the meeting of the Committee, talked to Péter Fehér, Vice-President and the heads of the Central Asia Research Centre on January 26. The partners at the meeting were glad to note that the number of Kazakh universities wishing to cooperate with the Corvinus keeps rising Ms Adilova suggested that it should be considered whether the Corvinus could be added to the list of universities where Kazakh students winning the Bolashak scholarship could apply for admission. The scholarship founded by the president of the Kazakh Republic covers the costs of the foreign study trips and research work of 500 students and researchers every year.
