Call for applications: Project Management Thesis of the Year Award 2025

Applications are open until 15 July 2025. Winners will receive professional recognition and opportunities for visibility.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT THESIS OF THE YEAR AWARD 2025
By launching this competition for project management-related theses, we aim to support young, early-career professionals and contribute to their professional advancement. The Award is intended to help ensure a continuous supply of talent for the project management profession and to support this process. Furthermore, it aligns with PMI Hungary’s key objective of promoting the development of project management culture.
OBJECTIVE OF THE COMPETITION
Through theses on project management topics, the competition aims to:

Present young professionals and their work to the project management community

Support their career development

Ensure a steady talent pipeline for the project management profession

Promote the advancement of project management culture
ORGANIZER AND AWARD SPONSOR
The competition is organized by PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter, the local branch of the Project Management Institute.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Eligible applicants are those who have submitted and successfully defended a BSc/BA, MSc/MA, or postgraduate thesis in Hungarian or English on a project management topic at any higher education institution during either of the two academic years preceding the competition period. The thesis must apply project management methods and tools and present theoretical and practical content or results related to project management methodology.
WHY APPLY?
The winner of the Project Management Thesis of the Year Award will:

Receive the prestigious “Project Management Thesis of the Year” award, presented at a ceremonial event

Get a free pass to the PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter Art of Projects Conference

Be featured on the PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter website
Additionally, the top three authors in each category will receive a certificate of recognition and may choose a project management book as a prize. Their academic advisors will also receive a project management book of their choice. Winners will have the opportunity to publish:

A short (approx. 2-page) article presenting their thesis on the PMI Budapest website

A 15-20 page summary in a dedicated publication
-
Their thesis for the project management community on the PMI Budapest website
High-quality submissions will thus provide significant visibility opportunities for graduating students and young professionals within the project management field.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Applicants must submit the following documents together:

A PDF version of their thesis or dissertation

A 2,500-3,000 character (excluding spaces) summary of the thesis

A completed application form
-
Optionally: a recommendation from their thesis advisor and the official thesis reviews
Application deadline: 15 July 2025.

Applicants will be notified of the evaluation results by 30 September 2025.
EVALUATION AND CRITERIA
The evaluation will be conducted separately in the Ba/BSc, Ma/MSc, and postgraduate categories. Theses will be assessed by a professional jury led by a chairperson delegated by PMI Budapest, with participation from university lecturers and corporate experts. The evaluation criteria are as follows:

Relevance to project management

Topic and objectives of the thesis

Application of theoretical and literature knowledge

Data collection, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations

Structure and presentation
ANNOUNCEMENT OF RESULTS
Results will be announced at the PMI Budapest, Hungarian Chapter Art of Projects Conference in the presence of the project management community.
The absolute winner’s thesis will also be submitted to the international “R. Snyder International Student Paper of the Year Award.”
