László Árpád Vaskovics (1936–2026), a Hungarian-born German sociologist and internationally renowned researcher in family sociology, demography, and social policy, has passed away. His primary research focused on the transformation processes taking place within family structures in modern societies, with a particular interest in the transition phase between youth and adulthood. In many of his writings, he analyzed the situation of marginalized groups and the homeless. 

He published more than 10 books, and the number of his studies and papers is estimated at around 100. While most of his works were published in German, several Hungarian-language publications and books also saw the light of day in the 2000s. As the result of an international scientific project, he co-authored the work titled The Life Path of Young Married Couples in Germany and Hungary (2005). 

In May 1998, he was elected an external member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and his inaugural academic lecture was also published in Hungarian. 

Corvinus University of Budapest awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1991, and he served as a guest lecturer at the university for more than a decade.

He became professor emeritus at the University of Bamberg in 2002. Until his death, he lived and worked in Bamberg, Germany.
