Mrs. István Baka, former lecturer at the University’s Institute of Finance, passed away

Mrs. István Baka, born Margit Bognár, pursued her full-time studies in Finance at the Karl Marx University of Economic Sciences, graduating in 1966.
On January 1, 1966, she began her career at the Institute of Finance, where she served as a key educator and staff member for nearly three decades. As the professional secretary of the Department of Finance, she was the living conscience of the department. Beyond imparting her knowledge, she was always accessible to students whenever they faced academic or personal challenges—offering support with her humanity, helpfulness, and unwavering commitment to her students. She retired on November 1, 2007, marking the end of a long career dedicated to serving the university.
For decades, she assisted and coordinated the work of her colleagues as the professional lead for the Finance major at the Institute of Postgraduate Economic Studies, as well as the professional secretary of the Miklós Riesz Foundation. In both roles, she did an immense amount for both alumni and current students.
Her former colleagues remember her with love and respect. Her absence is felt with deep heartbreak, and we will preserve her memory with gratitude and esteem.
May she rest in peace.
The blessing of her ashes and her farewell ceremony will take place during a memorial mass at the crypt of the Holy Angels Parish in Gazdagrét, Budapest (1112 Budapest, Gazdagréti út 14) on September 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM. In accordance with the parish’s request, please bring only a single stem of flower as a tribute.
