Both our teams will be in the final four of the university Both our men’s and women’s university basketball teams made it through the crossover with a double win, advancing to the quarterfinals against National University Basketball Championships, so both “teams” will be there in the final four in early May. Kata Németh’s girls in Miskolc in a three-quarter won a close game in Miskata by more than 20 points in three quarters, the and the return match was decided in the first quarter. Led by Csaba Vladár got off to a great start in Eger and held a big lead until the break, but the but for most of the second half, the good, united Eger team was able to and by the end of the second half, the team was able to close the gap, but in the end, they were able to renew the and took a 4-point lead. After that, the rematch was wide open “got off to a scary start, as the team started with great concentration and good shooting form. Eszterházy had a 10-point lead, which meant that which meant they were in the running overall. In the middle of the first quarter and the second the first half of the first half and the second half of the second half, the boys were on parade, and with the great play they showed then the return leg and the match, which had been a spectacular, high quality game.

Márton Petra: – Our approach was that what will be, will be. The girls did their best. They did everything they could, but unfortunately with a lot of mistakes. Our opponent was not brilliant either, so we managed to hold on, but then unfortunately everything went wrong. Congratulations to my team and of course to our opponent. Next week we will try to improve.

Kata Németh: – After a really long trip, it was difficult to finding ourselves. Maybe we came close to our own game in the last quarter. We didn’t shoot with a very good percentage, our defense didn’t really work. Despite this I think it was a tough game and I’m happy with the win. Congratulations to both teams!

Márton Petra:In the first quarter, our opponent played and shot very well, and we couldn’t do much about it. We played the kind of basketball we should in a playoff game in the middle two periods, but in the fourth quarter, as in the first game of the matchup, we turned the ball over a lot. I congratulate the Közgáz team and wish them good luck in the final.

Progressed: Közgáz with a double win

National University Basketball Championship, men, quarter-final, game 1

Eszterházy SC – Közgáz SC and DSK 92-96 (22-30, 19-30, 25-18, 26-18)

Eger, Leányka street Sports Hall, 25 spectators. V.: Mezei, Kovács.

Eszterházy SC: BOTKA 28/15, Bajusz 9/3, GILSZKI 11/3, RÉKASI 11/3, GAÁL 20/6, Sub: Kerekes 8/6, Takács E. 5/3, Albach, Kovács K., Kelemen, Molnár B. Coach: Zsolt Kristóf Kátai. Co-coach: Klepej Roland.

Közgáz: Csík 6/3, DORMÁN 27/9, Jenei 10, SZÁNTÓ 11/9, Sólyom 8. Sub: RADICS 12, CSIKÓS 12, Gyűrk 6, Béres 4. Coach: Csaba Vladár

Zsolt Kristóf Kátai: – We have ourselves to thank for this result, conceding 60 points to Közgáz in the first half was a great luxury. We hardened up our defense for the second half, and to overcome a 20-point deficit took our strength for the last quarter. The energy to turn the game in our favour was gone, but we still ended up with four points, and I think it is not an impossible mission to leave the court victorious on Monday. I did think it was a bit exaggerated that we were able to take seven penalties at home and our opponents twenty-five. I don’t think there was such a big difference in fouls taken between the two teams.

Csaba Vladár: I’m very happy that we could win here in Eger, we were watching because not many teams in the Eastern group managed to do it. We started very well in the first half, then Eger’s zone defence made us unsure, we missed chances and Eger punished us and came back into the game. We used our last reserves of strength to build a very slim lead here at the end, but we still have a game to play.

Match 2:

Közgáz SC and DSK – Eszterházy SC 90-70 (29-28, 27-15, 17-18, 17-9)

Budapest, Kinizsi u., quarterfinal, second leg 40 spectators. V.: Hervay, Hegedűs A.

Közgáz: CSÍK 12, SZÁNTÓ 10, DORMÁN 21/12, RADICS 13/9, SÓLYOM 8. Sub: Csikós 6, NAGY G. 9/3, BÉRES 11/6, Szirák. Coach: Csaba Vladár.

Eszterházy: BOTKA 14/3, BAJUSZ 16/6, Gilszki 2, Rékasi 6, GAÁL B. 12/3. Sub: Ficsor 6, Takács E. 6, Molnár B. 6/3, Albach, Kerekes, Kelemen, Kovács K. Coach: Klepej Roland

Csaba Vladár: It’s always a great experience and success to reach the final of the university championship, the final four. It is always a great success and a great feeling to win the final. It is always a great feeling to win the final. I am very happy, I don’t want to go into technical details. We are trying to prepare as well as possible for the final four and to achieve the best possible result there.

Roland Klepej: – We started the game in a very good rhythm, concentrated, we had the balance in our game, we were successful from the inside and from the outside. Közgáz’s first timeout broke our momentum, we made several bad decisions, especially defensively, and we simply couldn’t deal with our opponent’s shooting form in the first half, we scored 60 points at home and almost as many at the break. In the second half we tried to renew ourselves, we had some good periods, but overall it was not enough at home to Közgáz, whom I congratulate on the victory and wish good luck in the final four.

Progressed: Közgáz with a double win
