The professional arguments for a double degree
Many of Corvinus’ master students are looking to international companies for their future careers. As there are many large Western European companies in Hungary, it is obvious that students should also open up to them. For such a career plan, a German–Hungarian double master’s degree is extremely useful, as students will get a degree from two recognised universities, which are accepted in countries all over the world. It opens more doors to the job market, as shown by the example of the alumni, many of whom have gone on to become senior economists in Western European companies.
The question is: if Corvinus awards a certain number of master’s diplomas per year, what will make you stand out in the labour market? English is already an expectation, German is a plus, especially when combined with a knowledge of the professional language. (Dávid Bálint)
The Passau–Corvinus double degree programme also shapes attitudes: Students spend a full year at the partner university, where they are completely integrated. The languages of the programme are English and German, and the quality of the education is very high.
But how will I finance it?
A crucial question when applying is whether it is necessary to take on a second job to finance your study abroad, whether you need to use up your reserves or whether there are other ways of funding. For the 2024 applicants, the scholarship opportunity was very fortunate as the Pannonia programme had been announced.
In addition, Passau is a student city of 53,000 inhabitants, where housing is much more affordable than in neighbouring cities such as Munich. After a few weeks of searching, the Corvinus master students currently studying abroad found a reasonably priced apartment close to the city centre. But Passau has several dormitories and the cost of living is lower than in Budapest.
In Passau, we became aware of the extensive support that the State of Bavaria and the university itself provide to students. For example, students can eat at a reduced price in the canteen, public transport is free, and even regional travel is a bargain with the Deutschland Ticket. (Bence Havasi)
University years in the heart of Europe – unforgettable experiences
Passau is the “Venice of Bavaria”, but the recently introduced Deutschland Ticket is also a great way to explore the surrounding countries. Passau is ideally located for this, with Regensburg, Nuremberg, Munich, Salzburg, Stuttgart, Strasbourg, Basel and Zurich all within 2–3 hours by train.
Being a student city, Passau offers a very colourful university life. Everyone can find a programme to suit their interests. At the start of each semester, there are daily orientation programmes for several weeks, where you are shown around the city and new students can meet other German and international students on campus. The university is distinctly multicultural, open and inclusive.
It was a very good feeling that Corvinus was the first partner university mentioned at the opening ceremony. International relations are also very important for the city of Passau, so we were invited by the mayor to an opening reception at the beginning of the academic year. From the very first moment, we felt like full citizens, both on campus and in the city. (Nelli Dankó)
