Exploring Academic Migration Through Narratives: Research Seminar by Dr. Kamil Luczaj

As part of the Institute’s Research Seminar Series, on 3 November 2025 the Global Mobility Research Group hosted a well-attended and thought-provoking presentation by Dr. Kamil Luczaj, CIAS Visiting Fellow, titled “From Biographies to Policy: Using Autobiographical Narrative Interviews in Higher Education Research.”
The event brought together 25 colleagues and PhD students, fostering a vibrant atmosphere of academic exchange and methodological reflection. Dr. Luczaj presented an innovative approach to studying higher education and migration through the lens of autobiographical narrative interviews, as developed by sociologist Fritz Schütze.
Drawing on two recent studies of migrant academics from Poland and Hungary, Dr. Luczaj demonstrated how deeply personal biographical data can inform policy-oriented research in higher education.
A warm thank-you goes to Dr. Luczaj and all participants for contributing to such a lively and engaging discussion.
