What happens when, during a friendly dinner, not only the flavors but also the climate impact of the dishes come to the table? In the BBC’s exciting documentary, five guests choose from a menu while the carbon footprint of each dish is calculated in real time. The film playfully demonstrates how our food choices affect the future of our planetsometimes with surprising results. 

Feast to Save the Planet does not judge but confronts and provokes thought: is the vegan option always the greenest one? How do transportation, seasonal production, or agricultural practices influence the footprint of our meals? The film is both entertaining and educational, helping us understand the complex environmental impact of the food industry. 

 

Format: A competition set in a restaurant, where five guests choose from various dishes. 
Experts: 

  • Gregg Wallace, Master Chef 

  • Dr. Hannah Fry, mathematician and science communicator 

Topic: Examining the ecological footprint of food—i.e., how much CO emissions are associated with preparing a given dish. 
Style: Entertaining yet scientifically grounded. Guests earn points based on the sustainability of their food choices. 
Premiere: 04 January 2021 

 

After the screening, we will discuss what we have seen. We will talk about how the film depicts the problem and what the entertainment format means in terms of authenticity. We will also think together about how climate change and the ecological crisis can be addressed effectively through infotainment. 

 

Participation is open and free of charge. Everyone is welcome!
